I believe that the effort young researchers put into writing theses and dissertations in theoretical research could be of great benefit to society as a whole. Unfortunately, their work is not adequately supported until it is turned into an applied project by a company. This is a step in the wrong direction because it requires the researcher to subordinate their work and goals to the profit of a particular company. As a result, promising theoretical achievements end up as discarded notes whose authors are subjected to the philosophy of the narrow-minded and self-serving project managers that dominate much of global industry today. Financial support for independent researchers in the form of UBI, either by the state or by individuals, is one way to enable scientific work outside of self-serving institutions.
